Davy Jones Locker Diving Instructor Ed is also the manager of our Koh Lipe Dive Centre. It was great however to have him back on Koh Tao during Koh Lipes’ low season. We’re sure he will do a fantastic job when he goes back to Koh Lipe for the coming season.
High Season starting soon on Koh Lipe
Its nearly that time of year.
You can feel it, something intangible, yet so real you can almost taste it in the air. The sense of excitement in divers everywhere. Yes ladies and gents, in just a few short weeks we will be flinging open the doors on a new season of diving on Koh Lipe.
Where is Koh lipe?
Koh Lipe, at the heart of the Taratao national park is a stunning jewel of golden sand, nestling amongst the islands, large and small of the Adang archipelago. Almost all of the islands in the park are completely untouched. Dense jungle covers the islands with deserted beaches lining the edges.
Koh Lipe itself has a little more development. But it is still described as being similar to how the better known islands of Thailand were twenty years ago. Expect miles of superb beaches, international cuisine, laid back bars, fresh seafood barbecued Chao Ley style and virtually no cars. In fact you can easily walk around the island, or jump in a salang tuk tuk.
Koh Lipe dive sites
Then there is the diving… Sometimes it feels like the fish are queuing up to see you. All types of reef life will surround you, from tiny nudibranches, hundreds of clown anemone fish, puffer fish, through to turtles and even the occasional big ray or shark. There is something cool to see on every dive.
It is possible to conduct some of the diving from traditional Chao Lay hardwood boats but high season sees the addition of our high powered, lightweight RHIB. This gives DJL the fastest access to special dive sites considered out of range by many dive operators. The area is so stunning often just the ride to the dive site feels like a once in a lifetime journey through paradise.
Taratao National Park
The location of the national park is in the north of the straits of Malacca. This is the narrow channel that joins the Indian Ocean to the Pacific. It brings the life giving waters that makes the reef life here so varied. It also means that the diving is heavily affected by the tides. Book your trip around, or shortly after neap tides if you want the best visibility, and around springs if you prefer exhilarating drift diving.
Contact the experienced team of multilingual dive professionals before you book your trip for guidance on when to find the best conditions to suit your style of diving.
