What is an IDC and IE? An IDC is the Instructor Development Course, the IE is the Instructor Exam, both have been developed by PADI over several years. The IDC teaches you all of the skills you need to become an Instructor and the IE is the acid test where you find out if you can make the grade!
You begin the course as a Dive Master and, with a bit of effort, grit and determination finish the course as an Open Water Scuba Instructor. The number of opportunities that become available to you as an OWSI are virtually unbelievable, I challenge you to find an Instructor who regrets taking their IDC or IE. Personally I know hundreds of Instructors and all of them, absolutely 100% of them, say it is the best decision they have ever made!
Now because you need the highest qualified, most elite of instructors- Course Directors– to teach people to become an Instructor only a small percentage of Dive Centres around the world can teach it. At Davy Jones Locker we teach the course three or four times a year and have been doing so with a solid, outstanding track record for years. But this month is something of a special event for us as we have just begun our largest ever IDC in the history of our company.
Twenty two Dive Masters from many countries around the world, under the watchful eye of our three Course Directors Peter Nieuwhof, Guy Corsellis and Patrick Tassin have just embarked on their journey to becoming PADI Instructors!
The course starts, as you would probably expect, with an introduction, a few ice-breakers and an overview of the course itself.
Then it’s time to get wet; starting in the safety of the pool.
Time for a practical, hands on experience of what is expected of you, what to look out for and how to do it right every single time.
Here are a couple of photos from the pool session today:
