Having never dived in my life, it was a pretty big decision when I decided to fly out to Koh Tao and begin my open water course through to Divemaster with Davy Jones Locker, but I haven’t regretted any of it. After a shaky start, when I was ill during the open water course, I quickly began to love diving. I completed the open water, advanced and rescue courses within a week and was lucky enough to see a turtle on my 5th dive, which was really exciting. Then began the awesome fun of being a DMT (divemaster trainee). From fun diving with DMT’s to crazy nights out it was an amazing time. I learnt a huge amount from assisting with courses and helping the instructors out and the satisfaction of completing the different elements of the DMT course was very rewarding. I finished the course in 7 weeks and loved every minute of it, so much so that I then decided I wanted to work in the diving industry. Luckily I was fortunate enough to be offered a job at Davy Jones as a Divemaster, which has been an invaluable experience. I usually dive every day, taking out fun divers or conducting scuba reviews and I am yet to have had a bad day at work. In fact, I have loved being a Divemaster so much, it wasn’t long before I decided I wanted to take the next step and do my IDC (Instructor Development Course) which I will be starting in February at DJL. I’m so glad that I made the decision to join the underwater world and would definitely encourage anyone who is interested in diving to give the Divemaster course a go too.
